Chiefs KO Raiders, seize control of AFC West

Avenging their last loss. An Oakland loss means there’s zero chance the team can clinch a spot this week.

Tyreek Hill had touchdowns receiving and on a punt return, Kansas City’s defense made life miserable for Oakland quarterback Derek Carr, and the Chiefs beat the Raiders 21-13 on a frigid Thursday night to take control of the AFC West.

The game is scheduled to kick-off at 8:25 p.m. E.T. Watch it live below.

“We’re learning how to win games at whatever cost it takes”, Carr said. “We don’t get caught up in all the must-win stuff, that’s not how we operate, but we knew the stakes for sure”. “Like coach said, ‘What we want in our goals and what we’re after, they’re still there for us.’ We won’t let this determine who we are and what we want to accomplish”. Yeah, he’s won his share of playoff games, but the haunting record obviously is 1-4 in Conference Championship games plus a 1-2 record so far in KC.

In Week 6, the Oakland Raiders were embarrassed at home at the hands of the divisional rival Kansas City Chiefs, 26-10.

Kansas City also suffered a hard loss, as linebacker Derrick Johnson left the game with a left Achilles injury.

Teams win in the playoffs like this, too.

TAY TRAIN: After missing the first meeting with Kansas City with turf toe, Latavius Murray will be counted on to give the Raiders a big boost.

Oakland Raiders defensive back SaQwan Edwards (30) is tackled by Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston (50) during the first half of an NFL football game in Kansas City, Mo., Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016. Among them, he had one touchdown pass and one interception. “We look forward to going in there and competing”. And in typical fashion, they still manage to fly under the radar, possibly because their wins come through defense and the run. “In all three phases we came up a little short”. On the other side, the Broncos have to play with desperation, aiming for the chance to overtake Kansas City and Oakland for the AFC West championship or to at least secure a wildcard berth. With four games left he has season highs in yardage (1,129), rushes (163), catches (27), and first downs (40).

The ramifications begin with the division race, where the Chiefs (10-3) forged a tie with Oakland (10-3) at the top.

“They won”, Del Rio said.

“Block, catch and lean”, Poe told reporters. And maybe throwing a lateral to 346-pound nose tackle Dontari Poe can be called gimmicky, but no one can argue with a play that results in a touchdown.

Two of the hottest teams in the National Football League reside in the AFC West and will be going head to head tonight in a game that could determine who wins the Division. I’ve had my fair share of those games; you treat it like any other game. Whatever he said, that’s his opinion. We really try to keep it simple.

Derek Carr only threw for 117 yards for the Raiders. Just like in the 1960s, when the Raiders and Chiefs were often in contention. And Alex Smith, generally seen as a game manager, put on a passing clinic, completing 19-of-22 attempts for 224 yards.

“We got punched in the mouth”, Carr said. They’re playing very good all the way around in the different phases. But a big reward could be waiting for them.
