Baba Rahman: ‘Michael Essien, Christian Atsu backed my move to Chelsea’

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has congratulated his fellow countryman Baba Abdul Rahman who just signed for the English Premier League champion.

Currently, Cesar Azpilicueta, who is naturally a right-back, operates at the left-back. He was the Bundesliga’s top tackler last season, making more successful challenges than any other player.

His enthusiasm, if perhaps not quite in terms of quality, also translates to the defensive side of his game.

“I watched him [Essien] whenever I could”. Mourinho had already spoken of his hopes of having Baba ready to go this weekend – whether that means in the starting lineup (unlikely) or on the bench (likely) remains to be seen.

Rahman played for Greuther Furth before he joined Augsburg in 2014.

The 6 jersey was free as Chelsea first-choice centre-backs, Gary Cahill and John Terry, wear 24 and 26 respectively. Obviously Chelsea won the Premier League last season and I hope we can repeat that, and do even more. Apparently, this was his preferred choice all along.

Essien spent nine seasons at Chelsea including a loan move to Real Madrid.

Generally, the player came across as excited to get himself started at Stamford Bridge, and indicated that he thinks his style will suit the Premier League as he’s prepared to get up and down the left flank from his full-back position.

“Thanks to the club and the supporters for giving me the opportunity to put the blue shirt on”.
