Lions at Giants: Highlights, score, and recap

It hasn’t been flawless, but the results have been strong enough for NY to have a postseason appearance within reach.

That defense kept the Detroit Lions’ offense in check Sunday on a gray, rainy afternoon at MetLife Stadium.

“I wouldn’t say I was bummed”, said Eli Manning, who watched the game after the Giants’ 17-6 victory over the Lions.

The Giants’ chances of winning the NFC East took a major hit on Sunday night when the first-place Cowboys beat the Bucs.

The 9-5 Lions will be on the road again this week as they take on the 12-2 Dallas Cowboys before returning home to host the 8-6 Green Bay Packers in a regular-season finale that could decide the victor of the NFC North.

So to recap, if Washington loses two remaining games, they will not be able to catch the Lions’ 9-7 record.

The play resulted in a four-yard gain for the Giants on their opening drive, one that led to a touchdown and a 7-0 NY lead. Jenkins was unable to return to the game after the play, but the nature of the injury became more serious. It has worked splendidly. Led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, who is enjoying a stellar season, the Lions lead the league in fourth quarter comebacks.

Rookie Anthony Zettel had his first career sack. He joined his older brother Peyton on that list, along with Brett Favre, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Dan Marino and John Elway.

Beckham Jr. finished the day with six catches for 64 yards and a touchdown, but he really should have finished with just five catches.

But both offenses struggled from there. Detroit might have had more in the second quarter, but misfortune struck. They had to settle for a field goal by kicker Robbie Gould.

Matt Prater made field goals of 48 and 33 yards and has now connected on 30-of-33 field goal attempts this season. His passing yards have been in the 190s in the last three games and he has thrown three interceptions and lost two fumbles.

Beckham Jnr then found the end zone once more, running in a touchdown from the Lions’ next punt, but it was called back for an illegal block and didn’t count.
