With the Raiders up 33-to-17, franchise quarterback Derek Carr dropped back to pass when he was sacked by Trent Cole for an eight-yard loss.

Losing a starting quarterback and an MVP candidate like Carr is a devastating development to an otherwise fantastic season for the Raiders. The Raiders went on to win the game, 33-25, but the team’s momentum was clearly stopped in its tracks after Carr went down.

Sebastian Janikowski incredulously missed two PAT attempts, leading to a mock celebration by the veteran kicker after finally making another one again. He’s had seven fourth-quarter comebacks this year. Janikowski’s PAT was good, increasing the Raiders’ lead to 26-7 with 10:48 left in the third quarter. The Colts top cornerback, Vontae Davis was right there.

New England holds a one-game lead in the seeding, but does not have the tiebreaker over Oakland. McGloin impressed in his first start, throwing three touchdowns in a win over Houston (any Raiders win was impressive in those days), but looked more destined for a backup role in subsequent outings. Had the Colts not gotten themselves in a hole, down 33-7 at one point in the third quarter, Chudzinski likely would’ve been able to continue using a similar attack throughout.
