LG made a floating speaker that looks plainer than others

LG is going to unveil the LG PJ9 floating speaker in 2017 January, at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Called the PJ9, LG says the futuristic Levitating Portable Speaker will provide high-quality audio and has the unique trait of being untouched by any surface or wires when playing.

One of the most noteworthy features of the speaker, besides its capacity to levitate, consists in the fact that as it starts to be low on power, the speaker will automatically descend to its Levitation Station. This means that it can easily survive when submerged under a meter of water, for about 30 minutes.

Bluetooth speakers have become increasingly popular because they offer more convenience and portability.

While the applications of a floating speaker are likely outnumbered by its limitations, you have to admit it looks pretty cool.

The 360-degree omnidirectional Levitating Portable Speaker sports a striking turbine blade-inspired design and is capable of connecting to 2 Bluetooth devices at the same time. A subwoofer augments the base, while Dual Passive Radiator technology enhances both mid-tone and high ranges. The woofer station that is present under the loudspeaker has an electromagnet placed within itself and the same poles helps float the speaker in the air without any support.

CES is busy and noisy, meaning it will be hard to determine how great (or not) the levitating PJ9 sounds unless LG has a quiet room setup. The speaker also has buttons that allow you to play music, skip tracks, turn it on and off and more. The speaker charges wirelessly without prompting from the user and without interrupting the music. For added enjoyment and portability, the PJ9 is IPX7 compliant in order to withstand adverse weather conditions, so listeners can delight in fantastic omnidirectional sound indoors or outdoors.
