Georgia Tech beats Kentucky in TaxSlayer Bowl
Kentucky kept things within striking distance for much of the first half, but Georgia Tech scored 10 points in the half’s final minute to extend its lead from 10-3 to 20-3 at the break. Both teams have pretty decent offenses, and they match up competitively.

– Kentucky’s backfield features two big-play backs. “I love early morning games because you don’t have to sit around all day and wait and anticipate”.
And so here they are, the Jackets and Cats, with a chance to close the season strong in a completely satisfactory bowl game.
“You’ve got to come out and you’ve got to compete”, Gran said. During the regular season, the line combined racked up just 11.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks combined. They are downhill power-and-speed backs that have taken the SEC East by storm.
Georgia Tech’s flexbone spread option vs. Kentucky’s defense. Williams and Snell Jr. should have no problem keeping the chains moving on Saturday morning. Redshirt sophomore Denzil Ware, arguably the x-factor for Kentucky’s defense is a linebacker most of the time for the Wildcats but can move down to defensive end if necessary.
Senior P.J. Davis returned a fumble 38 yards for a touchdown on the game’s opening drive, a terrible start for a Kentucky team that was making its first bowl appearance in six years.
While Kentucky did give the Yellow Jackets a bit of a run for their money in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 points, the Yellow Jackets were able to use good starting field position and a key third down conversion to put the game away on Dedrick Mill’s 3-yd TD run.
Johnson didn’t throw any interceptions against Georgia Tech and nobody else fumbled. In 2014, the Yellow Jackets ended the year with wins over in-state rival Georgia and Mississippi State in the Orange Bowl. But Mills looks like he could be a force for at least two more years.
No matter how much time you have to prepare, Georgia Tech’s triple option offense is always hard to defend.
“I believe there was just some confusion”, Stoops said.
Playing in their first bowl game since the BBVA Compass Bowl in January 2011, the Wildcats did provide their many fans in attendance with a tense fourth quarter. They are the only duo from a Power 5 conference to have 1,000 yards each. But Stoops still isn’t happy about how Georgia Tech offensive lineman are blocking his defensive players and has been talking to the officials about it.”As I mentioned before, you know this game’s going to go quick”, Stoops said.
Alvonte Bell left EverBank Field Saturday afternoon on crutches while wearing a brace and his knee wrapped in ice.

It certainly helps that the Wildcats have an enticing mixture of thunder and lightning with powerful freshman Benny Snell (1,057 rushing yards, 13 touchdowns) and versatile veterans Stanley “Boom” Williams (1,135 yards, 7 TDs) and Jojo Kemp (321 yards, 6 TDs). Lay the points with Georgia Tech.
