Denver Broncos’ Gary Kubiak expected to retire

The defending Super Bowl champions are not exactly on a pace to go back to back. A second title is gravy.

Kubiak spoke with his players immediately after the home win over the Raiders, but did not want to answer questions from the media post-game. But it appears as if an official word will be made on Monday. This year, Denver couldn’t overcome its issues offensively and missed the playoffs with a 9-7 record.

The Broncos are in search of a coach.

Phillips, signed in January of 2015 by the Broncos, has been a huge difference maker in his two seasons with the team.

Several Bronco assistant coaches said pregame Kubiak had yet to notify them of his intentions. “We’re going to put this behind us and focus on next week”.

In the first half Sunday, the Broncos’ ground game suddenly resurfaced. The league’s quickest player took a punt 95 yards for a touchdown for his 12th score of the year. Denver has been downright disappointing to end the season and Oakland could continue that trend in a major way.

Meanwhile, the team that handed Oakland two of its four losses this season beat the Chargers 37-27, winning the toughest division in football for the first time since 2010.

Denver would run the clock out, winning the game 24-6. It led to Brandon McManus’ 22-yard field goal and a 10-0 lead for Denver.

Kubiak was 61-64 in eight seasons with the Texans.

“I think Trevor deserves the right to go back out there as a starter”, Kubiak said. No business really being around.

I cringed saying that, but putting that aside. “It’s tough, but I’ve got to push on”. The Broncos scored more touchdowns Sunday then they did in all of December.

The Broncos didn’t have any personal playoff aspirations to play for as they had already been eliminated from contention, but they sure would love to play spoiler to the Raiders.

The Broncos stacked the box and brought pressure, daring Oakland quarterbacks to throw all afternoon. The pass was intercepted by Brynden Trawick.

John Elway’s longtime backup quarterback in Denver was noncommittal when quizzed about his future earlier in the week. But his time will wait.

“He was a seventh-round pick”, Kubiak said of Siemian. “How competitive their situation is going to be. That’s going to be the hard part if we have to see them go”.
