Texans to start QB Brock Osweiler in wild-card game vs. Raiders

When comparing passer rating to the season in which a quarterback played, only six playoff.

In 2016, the Raiders stunned everyone with a 10-2 start.

The Texans’ best chance to get the offense going will be with Lamar Miller.

So, the Raiders offense will have a tremendous challenge moving the ball with a second- or third-tier QB and a running attack that faltered last week in the loss to the Denver Broncos.

If the Texans win on Saturday, I believe Bill O’Brien is the Texans’ head coach next season.

If Hopkins can not get going in the playoffs, the Texans will have to find their passing offense somewhere.

Nonetheless, as the Texans prepare to host their fourth home wild-card round tilt in the past six years, they’ll do so with questions in their QB room that span past the health of Tom Savage, who on Sunday departed just his second National Football League start before halftime with a concussion. The Texans’ quarterback situation has been shaky, and the team ranks 29th in the NFL.

“You play this game to be a starter”, Osweiler said via ESPN. With him likely out this weekend, Joseph is even more anxious to return. QB Tom Savage, who took over for struggling Brock Osweiler two weeks ago, was sidelined by a concussion in Houston’s 24-17 loss to Tennessee Sunday. This team lost its heart and soul, Derek Carr, and just blew the opportunity to grab the 2nd seed in the AFC. Osweiler did a good job, building up a 20-13 lead in the fourth period only to have the defense blow it, allowing Carr to throw two touchdowns to lead Oakland to a 27-20 win. Steelers nose tackle Kimo von Oelhoffen rolled into Palmer’s knee on his first pass of the playoffs and knocked him from the game.

Cook would be the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era to make his first start in a playoff game.

Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler (17) will start Saturday’s wild-card game. Something’s not right here! He might not win Defensive Player of the Year due to the Raiders’ defense possibly being unworthy of anyone receiving such an honor, but the third-year dynamo finished with 11 sacks, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and that pick-6 which furthered Cam Newton’s miserable season. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. on NBC. Last year, they went down 30-0 to Kansas City in the AFC wildcard playoff. “I’ve been wanting to play”, explained Joseph.

On the other hand, the Texans would be one of the more attractive vacancies out there, though I’m now not seeing too many coaches on the market that really get me excited.

Will Saturday’s Wildcard matchup between the Texans and Raiders fall under the betting total at 4:35PM ET?

It’s rare that a coach gets fired after consecutive playoff appearances, but the Texans might be at the point where change could come with another early postseason exit.

Offensively, Oakland is averaging 26.0 (7th) points and 373.3 (6th) yards per game. Granted, they were both home games against the 3-12 Jaguars and the 5-9-1 Bengals. He still was nowhere close to the guy the Texans thought they were signing this offseason, and when all was said and done, he threw one more interception than he did touchdowns this year.
