Forecasters Issue Winter Weather Advisory For Arkansas

Here’s the NAM model forecast snow totals for the next 84 hours and the GFS model forecast snow totals for the next 120 hours. The “sweet spot” will be St. Mary’s County, Maryland, where there’s a Winter Storm Warning. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of around an inch possible. Several trains which normally make stops in impacted areas will now only go as far south as Washington D.C. on January 7 to avoid the congestion caused by Winter Storm Helena. It is also certainly possible that North Jersey receives no fresh snow from this system.

High temperatures Friday will be in the mid-30s before dropping below 32 degrees after sunset and remaining below the freezing mark throughout the weekend. “The snow, combined with the frigid temperatures, will make travel treacherous”, city officials said in a statement.

For the Richmond metro area, an accumulation of at least three inches is expected.

During the afternoon, snow will quickly taper off from northwest to southeast. Saturday night: Freezing rain before 7 p.m., then rain, possibly mixed with freezing rain. At this point it looks close enough for significant amounts.

Uncertainty…there is likely to be a sharp cutoff in the main snow shield somewhere near the south coasts of Rhode Island and MA.

“Two rounds of snow will be possible across Middle Tennessee today and continue through tonight”.

Capital Weather Gang snowfall forecast for Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017. North wind around 15 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 25 miles per hour. “We’ve got to pick that window of opportunity when we can get out there between when the storm’s going to come in and also with traffic”, Brantley said.

The NWS in Birmingham sent up one of their sophisticated weather balloons earlier this morning.

Winds will pick up as the snow leaves the area. “Up to 14” of snow fell in N. Lower Michigan.

Snow accumulation could be from 1 to 2 inches. But the D.C., Baltimore and areas south and east will have the best chance to see some flakes fly, especially the farther south you travel. The upper system is a little stronger.

Town departments are monitoring conditions with the assistance of Emergency Management staff. Harrisburg Deputies will continue normal operations during the event and adjust staffing and operations as necessary. “Untreated roads and sidewalks may still be slippery heading into the Friday morning commute, even after the snow ends”, according to the weather service’s latest advisory.
