Doug Marrone: Doug Marrone interviewing with Rams on Sunday

Monday afternoon, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars were planning to remove the “interim” tag from Doug Marrone and make him the team’s permanent head coach. The Jaguars are believed to have interviewed six coaches, including Coughlin, since Gus Bradley was sacked December 18. The Jags went 1-1 under Marrone the final two weeks of the season. He went 6-10 in his first season, but appeared to have the team on the right track, going 9-7 in his second season. They had also interviewed Tom Coughlin, who had been linked to the Bills job earlier in the search but doesn’t seem to be on the team’s radar at this point.

Coughlin has spent this season as the NFL’s senior adviser to football operations, but the 70-year-old has said repeatedly he hoped to coach again. Marrone has been Jacksonville’s assistant head coach/offensive line coach since January 2015.

If David Byrne of Talking Heads were a Jaguars fan, he’d probably say “We’re on Marrone to nowhere”. They surely will bring a different vibe, a much more disciplined approach that will put more emphasis on winning games than Bradley did.

The Jacksonville defense features a number of talented top draft picks including Jalen Ramsey, Donte Fowler, and Malik Jackson.

Teams picking near the top of the 2017 National Football League daft got the news they were waiting for on Monday when North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback Mitch Trubisky announced he’s leaving school for the pro ranks.

The Jaguars have the complimentary pieces on offense at both wide receiver and running back. He guided Jacksonville to the 1996 and 1999 AFC Championship Games during his eight-year stint with the team.

Kyle Shanahan was another candidate to interview with the Jaguars. “We’ll help him with that, but he has to help himself”.

“Am I missing the sideline?” And I can’t do that.

“I see a guy who needs to think about some of the things he does”, Reese said. “I need constant feedback on stuff like that”, Bortles said.
