WSU to honor MLK’s legacy with a week of service

Organizers are wanting the community to come continue the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.in coming weeks with the annual celebration of his legacy in Polk County.

Monday – Closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Other events planned as part of the celebration: – Unity March: Marching with a objective at 2 p.m. January 16, with members of Nu Zeta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity at the university’s Central Plaza fountain. The activities will also include a Sunday afternoon event.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a man of faith.

The Lamesa Post Office lobby will be closed on Monday and there will be no local delivery of mail on that day.

The theme this year is “Visions!” “Day Essay Challenge”, according to a release. “I hope this challenge encourages young people all across CT to commit to making Dr. King’s dream and the dreams of their own a reality”.

Reverend David M. Fryson is the Keynote Speaker for the 2017 Ecumenical Service. “It’s always important to remember that and know that we can still do more”. The Ecumenical Service is from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by the march to the north steps of the State Capitol Complex. It is co-sponsored by the Multifaith Chaplaincy, the Waltham Group, the Cooperative Metropolitan Ministries and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Courageous Conversations GTX will host a community potluck and assembly Saturday, Jan. 21 from 5 p.m.to 8 p.m.at San Gabriel Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1322 E. University Ave.

The march is at 3:30 p.m.in the SURC Pit.
