Mexico will never pay for that wall

“You’re going to pay a very large border tax”. He has also mentioned that it will be a wall and not just a fence.

Congress should not allow any taxpayer funds for this atrocious idea. When Trump was confirmed as the president-elect, the peso fell 25% against the dollar.

“All of that gives me sufficient confidence that the future of institutional collaboration is going to be contingent more upon that foundation than upon barriers or policies that Trump or his administration set in motion”.

Gurria, who served as Mexico’s finance minister from 1998 to 2000, said Mexico’s central bank, which sold $2 billion in dollar reserves last week to support the peso, had helped prevent a deeper crash.

He said Mexico will also invest in a more secure border but declared that the USA government shared responsibility for migrants trying to enter the US, and should be working to stop the southward movement into Mexico of weapons and illicit funds.

Trump claims the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which went into effect between Mexico, the US and Canada in 1994, unfairly benefits Mexico.

“The money, he told the paper, would likely be recouped through a renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement, which he had criticized often in the past”.

Donald Trump could also choose to build the wall on various segments of the border, as well as reinforce existing structures with electronic surveillance systems. The wall would mean a harsher clampdown on illegal immigration. Whether they accept or not, the wall will still be build. Trump would ask them. “That will happen”, Trump said. But Mexico has already responded to the plans by saying that it won’t be paying for a wall.

Trump never settled on a mechanism for how that would come about. For decades the US has spent billions of dollars on barriers, personnel, and technology along the border.

Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, said President-elect Donald Trump’s plan for a border wall alone will not be enough to secure the Mexican border.

“I could wait about a year and half until we finish our negotiations with Mexico, which will start immediately after we get to office, but I don’t want to wait”, the president-elect said. “I think it will be hard to stand against funding existing law”.

“Counter to the incoming Trump administration’s goal of creating manufacturing jobs the withdrawal from NAFTA or the implementation of punitive tariffs could result in the loss of at least 31,000 USA automotive and parts jobs”. The Senate, where Democrats have the numbers to block legislation, may be a greater hurdle. The measure could take effect as early as April, said Dziczek.

Detouring from Mexico into the U.S.is hardly quick or easy at some border areas.

“You can’t shut down the government because you lied in your campaign promise”, Fresco said.

“With all due respect to the president, we elect a president, not a king”, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-TX 28) said. But foreign investors still want to park money in US assets.
