Last night the Golden State Warriors embarrassed the Cleveland Cavaliers a few days after LeBron James downplayed their rivalry. Leaving the only franchise he’d ever known for a one year stint with Golden State seemed unreasonable. That will only help the best rivalry in sports. A sports rivalry is based on a long, continuous and contentious series of encounters between teams, built on decades of competition.

LeBron isn’t going to come out and claim the Warriors as the Cavaliers’ sole rival, but don’t let that make you think they aren’t on his mind. Monday night, he even looked greedy, the way the team needed him to be last season, occasionally hunting for shots and seeking the moment.

But in the blowout loss to the Warriors, the Cavaliers showed complacency, maybe even overconfidence.
