In a tweet on his personal account he accused protesters of not voting in the election.

“Why didn’t these people vote? Celebs hurt cause badly”, Mr Trump said early Sunday in a Twitter post. The march organisers had originally applied for a 200,000-people permit, but said almost half a million attended the march.

At the main “Women’s March on Washington” organisers told AFP they estimated the turnout at one million, with huge crowds joining sister marches around the country – and tens of thousands more marching worldwide.

He told Central Intelligence Agency staff during a speech: “I looked out, the field was, it looked like a million, million and a half people”.

Trump did not respond to Madonna’s remarks directly. In two tweets, Trump took a shot at protesters while also defending their right to protest.

“Even if I don’t always agree, I recognize the rights of people to express their views”, he wrote.

Trump’s comments about women were “terrible”, Smith said, but he voted for the candidate because he felt Trump was “better than Hillary”. The result of this much larger-than-expected crowd was evident to anyone who tried to join using any form of public transportation as trains and subways overflowed with people trying to make it into downtown Washington.

See, what Trump didn’t mention, though, is that Barack Obama’s first inauguration, in 2009, drew 38 million television viewers.

King told the crowd, “I have a dream”, drawing on both “the American dream” and religious themes, speaking of an America where his children “will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”.

And Trump appears to have taken that obsession with him to the Oval Office.

The march, one of hundreds in cities across the globe, came one day after Trump was inaugurated into the White House.
