Nadal stays on course for dream Federer final

We haven’t seen the “Fedal” term mentioned in several years in the majors, but it’s quite possible that the Swiss and Spaniard will meet in the Melbourne Park final a full eight years after their 2009 match. But, today will be different, as for the first time, Monfils is the higher ranked player at No. 6, while Nadal is at No. 9. Some of the younger players like Raonic, Goffin, and Dimitrov are all staring down their best opportunity to win a slam since they’ve been on tour.

“Raonic is an opponent who is very complicated because he has a wonderful serve and you know it will be hard to have many opportunities on his serve”, he said.

Roddick feels the speed could be an advantage for Federer, saying: “I’m sure Roger’s not disappointed in the way the courts were playing when he got here ahead of this tournament”.

Williams won the last of her 22 Grand Slam singles titles previous year at Wimbledon, but bowed out of the US Open in the semifinal. I was in shape in the match to get the momentum back.

After downing Roberto Bautista Agut in four sets, Milos Raonic talks about fighting through and finding a way to advance into the quarters and says his body is feeling great heading into the second week.

Despite that record, Gael Monfils had really stepped up his game in the past year and Rafael Nadal will have to be at his best against the Frenchman.

Nadal had similar memories as well as some regrets, having missed a passing shot that would have given him the second-set break in Brisbane that Raonic grabbed instead. “But I think there’s a lot of work to be done between reality and dreams”. With not a break point to either man and the clock almost at two and a half hours, they headed to a tie-break.Here, on the Rod Laver Arena, he ground Zverev down until the German’s body began cramp mid-way through the fifth set. Broke right away in the third.

“(It’s) coming together now”, he said, “putting in a great finish to the season a year ago and playing what I feel is some of my best tennis right now.

Milos Raonic (CAN) celebrates match point during his match against Roger Federer (SUI) on day 12 of the 2016 The Championships Wimbledon.

“David is an excellent player. I think it’s about doing what I want to do against her and staying focused on that”. We have played each other a few times and practiced together tons of times.

“He’s been serving really well and has served his way out of trouble”.

Piling up ranking points with consistent results is one thing; winning on the biggest stages is something else entirely.

Goffin became the first Belgian man to reach the Australian Open quarter-finals when he knocked out eighth seed Dominic Thiem over four sets in intense heat. However, an irony at the 2017 Australian Open is that even with the top-two seeds out, the players many consider to be top-two all-time are still in and Raonic still has lots to prove.
