VentureBeat’s Evan Blass has the scoop, naturally, and has released the first image of Samsung’s upcoming flagship in the flesh, confirming that it’ll look near identical to the Galaxy S7 bar its repositioned fingerprint scanner on the rear.
As for features, reports suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S8 is to come in two screen size variants of 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch with QHD AMOLED display. The device depicted notably differs from earlier photos of the Galaxy S8’s front glass panel when it comes to the number of sensors along the top of the phone. It is also immediately apparent that there is no physical home button. Bixby is said to be more advanced than some of the other digital assistants on the market, with the ability to handle multi-step instructions. Given the host of rumours and predictions dominating the news in terms of what to expect from Samsung’s flagship S8, this is the closest we have gotten.
Both versions will feature 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory which can be augmented by an SD card.
Interestingly, Samsung is reported to introduce DeX alongside the S8 series. All the chipsets will be made out of 10nm processing which will make sure the devices will be 11% faster, 23% faster graphics rendering, and 20% more energy efficient than Galaxy S7.
That improved power consumption will be critical, because despite the vastly increased display sizes, battery capacity is said to be a relatively conservative 3000mAh and 3500mAh for the 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch designs, respectively. The front-facing camera will be an 8-megapixel shooter, with iris-scanning capabilities.
As it was mentioned in our report, Samsung will retain the legendary 3.5mm headphone jack, unlike Apple. Plus the phone itself should feature a force touch style sensitivity at the bottom for more complex controls. To use the feature, you will need to purchase an optional HDMI-equipped dock. While there are no significant hardware improvements to the rear camera, it will offer new visual search functionality.

In addition, the price for this year’s Samsung lineup is their prices. So far, from launching at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona to the launched pushed back to April and then May, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has seen it all.
