Mexican president cancels meeting with Donald Trump over border wall row
Such a tax would likely violate provisions of the North American Free Trade Agreement and rules of the World Trade Organization. Trump added that “some” were presumably good people, but the comments nonetheless deeply offended many Mexicans. “Could the US win a trade war with Mexico? They’ve made us look foolish”.

President Donald Trump kept up his criticism of Mexico on Friday, saying it “has taken advantage of the USA for long enough”, as a crisis over border security and trade deepened.
Former foreign minister Jorge Castaneda said the Mexican government should have canceled the planned summit earlier in the week, when it became clear that Trump was going to go ahead with measures to build the wall and clamp down on immigration. According to the U.S. Trade Representative, “The top export categories.in 2015 were: machinery ($42 billion), electrical machinery ($41 billion), vehicles ($22 billion), mineral fuels ($19 billion), and plastics ($17 billion)”.
Both “also agreed to not talk about this controversial matter in public for now”.
Trump also blasted the NAFTA trade deal, calling it a “total disaster” for the US, and said costs the U.S.as much as $60 billion each year in trade deficits to Mexico. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer says it’s only a proposal to fund the wall, the cost of which is estimated between $12 and $15 billion.
As Donald Trump’s becomes the president of the USA, protesters around the world make their opinions known.
Countries like Mexico would not pay such taxes directly.
“To think that Trump’s first 100 days are going to be marked by this very shameful shutting of our doors to everybody who is seeking refuge in this country is very concerning”, said Marielena Hincapie, the executive director of the National Immigration Law Center.
The tycoon said he would build an “impenetrable, physical, tall, powerful, beautiful, southern border wall” between the USA and Mexico.
And Mexico could retaliate by imposing similar tariffs on goods and services sold from the U.S. Already in Mexico, hashtags saying “adios”, or “goodbye”, to Walmart, Starbucks and Coca-Cola are trending.
Israel’s southern wall was built because they were facing an influx of African immigrants traveling through Egypt seeking political asylum and refuge in the Jewish State.

“The bottom line is, even from a legal framework point of view, we have an incredibly integrated economy with the United States”. But many Mexicans regard it as an insult, and the rough terrain and stretches of private property along the border could make building the wall a long and complicated project.
