Paris Police chief Michel Cadot confirmed the attacker had been taken into custody after being shot and seriously wounded.

An “aggressive” machete-wielding man rushed at soldiers, injuring one of them, while trying to enter Louvre Museum. As per the interior ministry of France, the soldier received minor injuries during the attack.

Mr Hollande told reporters at an European Union summit in Malta that there was “no doubt” the attack was of a “terrorist nature”.

The man suspected of attacking soldiers at the Louvre in Paris, named on Saturday as Abdullah Reda Refaie al-Hamahmy, professed support for Isis minutes before the assault, it is claimed.

The museum is located in the middle of Paris and serves as one of its most popular tourist attractions.

While Trump can point to this terror attack as a reason for America to take defensive action, he cannot explicitly say that this proves the need for his immigration order. Officers shooed away confused tourists.

The suspect was believed to have been staying in the capital’s 8th district, which was searched in a police raid earlier on Friday. Brandet said about 1,000 people were inside the actual museum and were held inside in safe areas.

The incident comes months before France elects a new president with incumbent Francois Hollande deciding not to seek a second term after his opinion poll ratings dropped during the state of emergency. Friday’s incident created panic.

There have been a number of attacks in the country since then, including one by a man who killed 86 and wounded more than 400 people past year when he rammed a truck into crowds celebrating Bastille Day in Nice. The 53-year-old says he hid for about 15 minutes before gingerly making his way upstairs. He said people were clearly scared.

He added: “Why are they afraid of the establishment of the Islamic State?” it said.
