UFC 208: Battle in Brooklyn at Barclays Center

Holly Holm can become the first-ever two-division UFC champion this Saturday night if she can defeat Germaine de Randamie.

The arrival of featherweight to the UFC is, to some degree, overshadowed by the woman who won’t be fighting in Brooklyn, and it’s not Rousey. “I just know that I didn’t perform my best”. Yeah? Okay, cool, whatever. On the contrary, it very much does. Like most all UFC headliners, a Paperview purchase is required to see the main fights in full.

“When I have no energy and when I got to say ‘stop, ‘ I’ll stop, but now I have a passion”, said Silva, speaking with Keyboard Kimura earlier in the week. I just want to win right now. But when you’ve lost two in a row, how on Earth does that not disqualify you from getting a title shot?

There has been plenty of criticism of the pairing in the main event of UFC 208 on Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn – some of it deserved, much of it the usual complaining simply to complain.

“Not taking anything away from Amanda, but Ronda, she didn’t have anything, she just wasn’t there”.

Holm is a former bantamweight champion in the UFC and won several boxing titles prior to embarking on her MMA career. “But in my mind, I feel bad for people who don’t get to experience the victory”. Who is the second best fighter in the weight class? Different story this time around. Germaine de Randamie, meanwhile, was among the elite in women’s muay Thai when she was tearing that sport to ribbons. With Justino still awaiting a decision on a potential penalty and a lack of 145-pounders added to the roster, the women’s featherweight era could be short-lived. Rarely do we see such contrast created from the direct result of one fight. Tonight, they got face to face at the ceremonial weigh-ins for the fans.

Holm surged into the national spotlight when she defeated the previously undefeated Ronda Rousey and improved to 10-0 as a professional.

Yes, we need a featherweight division. There’s a bit with the other fighters too though.

Once again, call Shannon Knapp. The only title fight of the night will be the female bantamweight matchup. “The Iron lady” also holds the record for most consecutive victories in women’s kickboxing with 37.

We’ll look at the evolution of women in UFC with UFC President Dana White.

It’s not his punching power that’s the biggest threat to Silva here (though the Brazilian legend’s chin has shown signs of weakness in recent years), but rather his wrestling game, and after his last outing I think he’ll be focusing more on that, which could shut down the former champion’s ability to do what he does best on the feet. While it is common knowledge that she solved the riddle that was Ronda Rousey, could the same be said about Holly Holm? She never lost consecutive bouts in a boxing career that spanned nearly 40 fights and never had lost an MMA bout before dropping her past two. They waited this long to make the 145-pound title fight, why not wait a bit longer?

Also on the card, veteran Anderson Silva returns to the UFC middleweight division to take on Derek Brunson as a +125 underdog on the UFC 208 betting lines.
