Holly Holm ready to return to the win column and make history

Holm began boxing professionally in 2002 and held light welterweight, welterweight and middleweight titles during her 12-year boxing career.

Holly Holm became an overnight sensation when she became the first woman to defeat the previously untouchable Ronda Rousey to become the UFC Bantamweight champion. “Whatever, right now it’s Holly vs.me”. To me it’s such an honor. The promotion didn’t even book two fighters who have had recent fights at 145 pounds.

On Friday, Holm weighed in at 144.4 pounds and De Randamie was 143.6. “It was for boxing, it is what it is. They offered me the fight, he had three pro fights, it was for TV and I’m like, let’s do it”.

Miller is a savvy veteran, but I think he’s going to have a hard time keeping up with the energetic Poirier’s pace and output. It’s a big step for this sport because I think superfight with me and Georges St-Pierre or Conor McGregor is good for this sport and for the fans. When Justino was subsequently flagged for a violation of the organization’s anti-doping policy, the bout between Holm and de Randamie fell into place. And that’s not including the daily classes that she goes to.

They have headlined numerous most recent UFC shows, including UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia, where 56,214 saw Holm upset Rousey; UFC 200 where Amanda Nunes won the title against Miesha Tate, and UFC 207 where Nunes successfully defended her bantamweight title against Rousey.

And how does one train to become an MMA fighter?

Holm will be looking for her first win since November 2015 when she won the bantamweight title by knocking out Rousey, giving her the first loss of her career. Not only will she lose out on the opportunity to make more of a name for herself besides “the one who beat Rousey”, she could potentially drop to 10-3.

“I did everything I could to make weight for the fight this weekend but due to the short notice my body shut down during the weight cut and the UFC doctors wouldn’t clear me to fight”, Willis said. That happened during UFC 162 on July 6, 2013. She has no equal, serving as both the reason the UFC was reluctant to create a 145-pound division and the justification for finally caving in and opening the doors.

A fascinating matchup between two elite strikers with sensational stand up skills and based on form from their previous two bouts, De Randamie has the edge having emphatically stopped both opponents whilst Holm has been substandard. He agreed to the fight with just a few days notice and the result was a unanimous decision loss. I hope she does.

Known as “The Iron Lady”, Dutch fighter Germaine de Randamie is not a fighter much known by the general UFC audience.

“We’re small, Holland is small”, she said.

“I just fight whoever and what are they good at, what am I good at, and I try to focus on that whether than who I’m fighting”, he said. That fight was an impressive stoppage win last May that showed off de Randamie’s striking and physicality that is not dissimilar to the absent Cyborg.

Germaine de Randamie's accuracy could be a problem for Holly Holm at UFC 208
