It did not give any reason for the suspension of the Nigeria Immigration boss, but explained that Abeshi is the most senior officer after the suspended NIS C-G. He has residency and as you know Lebanon for quite some time has granted full residency to Palestinian refugees.
However, the Nigerian government this week launched an investigation into how a wanted suspected terrorist was granted a Nigerian visa in Lebanon to visit Nigeria.
However, he noted that the means through which Al-Assir subverted the normal procedure and obtained his visa to Nigeria must be investigated and those found culpable punished.
This, he said, would include contact names, addresses and, usually, a letter of invitation is required from an individual or organization. Also the telephone numbers and addresses stated as contacts in visa application must be verified.
However, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ogbole Ahmedu-Ode said there was no update on the probe.
According to reports, the cleric, Ahmad al-Assir, was arrested by Lebanese authorities as he attempted to leave Lebanon to Nigeria via Cairo early on August 15.
President Mohammed Buhari who was embarrassed by the manner the leading terrorist was able to get valid Nigerian visa had ordered investigations into the issue.

Another source at the State House who also pleaded anonymity told LEADERSHIP that President Buhari was anxious about the loopholes created at the country’s embassy and the lackadaisical attitude of immigration officers towards their duty and has vowed to deal with officers found wanting who are bent on frustrating his efforts at nipping terrorism in the bud.
