Walking Dead season 7 episode 9 recap: Rick smiles again but why?
A lot of fans are just happy to see Rick in a good mood, with some suggesting that this new group will help Rick and the team with their fight against Negan.

It seems like ‘The Walking Dead’ and George Romero is a match made in heaven…or hell. One could say the same thing about Ezekiel and his Kingdom and yet no one would argue over which character we are supposed to like.
What Rick and all the other communities need the most on The Walking Dead are the guaranteed numbers to defeat Negan.
Sunday’s mid-season premiere of “The Walking Dead” was a huge return to the television series. With multiple members of the cast involved in time-consuming new projects (Sonequa Martin-Green has joined the new Star Trek, Corey Hawkins is holding down 24 and Chandler Riggs is headed to college, just to name a few), the stage is set for some of your faves not to survive to see season 8.
It might be the possibility that he has found the jackpot of man and weapon power or is probably thinking what a fool he was to roam for six long seasons with his troupe, killing hundreds of zombies, while there are people who remained self sufficient in the doomed world and are still flourishing.
The most epic walker kill ever, occurred in this episode!
The meeting with King Ezekiel didn’t fare much better. And they’re ready to rock n’ roll and kick some serious Saviors ass. He’s made his authority clear, but given how uneasy I’ve been with getting to know the Saviors, I look forward to getting that clearer sense of what Rick will be up against and who will be helping him.
Last night, episode 9, picked up where we left off at the closing of the first half of the season. Now, he can move on to take on Negan. They also want to take the explosives so they can use them against Negan and the Saviors eventually.
Let’s face it, Negan and the Saviors are just big bullies. It’s close. Of course, as we’ll discover later, there’s more to Gabriel’s departure than meets the eye, but it’s certainly some epic trolling on the writer’s room’s part.
“We own your lives”. Thanks to some careful scavenging, Rick and the crew have enough explosives to do some serious damage to the Saviors, but they’re still short on guns and soldiers.
It’s only a matter of time until Daryl and the Alexandrians see her though, right?
As for Negan? Only his voice is heard in this episode – no nasty business in this one. At one point, Rick and Michonne (Danai Gurira) clothesline a ton of walkers by driving the tripwire straight through the herd. Rick and Michonne get in the auto with the trip wire cable attached and they start running over zombies. The Walking Dead returned with a fantastic episode this Sunday! He finds a note he left that says “Boat”, even though it’s unclear how he even knew where the boat was, but this leads The Survivors to find another community who from their ratty black clothing appear to be unemployed bicycle messengers, who rapidly surrounded them.
When Simon and the Saviors leave, Rick turns his attention to the missing Father Gabriel, refusing to believe that he would punk out on the group after all this time together.

And Rick smiled. Not just a slight smirk, but a massive “I just saved money on my vehicle insurance” grin.
