Grammys 2017: David Bowie’s ‘Blackstar’ wins all five nominated categories

Donning a shimmering gold chain gown, the 35-year-old star took the stage at the 9 annual Grammys by performing two-songs from her Grammys nominated album Lemonade -‘Love Drought” and “Sandcastles’.

She is nominated for nine Grammys including in the most prestigious category of Album of the Year for “Lemonade”.

Adele wanted her performance of “Fastlove” during the George Michael tribute at Sunday’s Grammy Awards to be flawless. While black artists are honored in the genre categories, especially rap and R&B – Beyonce, for example, took home the award for best urban contemporary album as well as best music video – they rarely win the top award. “The Lemonade album. was so monumental and well thought-out and lovely and soul-bearing. we appreciate that”. All of us artists here adore you. “I love you so much, I always have and always will”, she said, teary-eyed, as an equally emotional Beyonce looked on. In a lengthy interview with Vanity Fair last December, the singer talked about her struggle with postpartum depression and about trying to balance work with family in general: “I felt very inadequate; I felt like I’d made the worst decision of my life”, she told the publication. By doing it publicly and acknowledging that the Grammys were so fucked up (not only in her opinion, but plenty others), Adele realized that although she won the Grammy electoral college vote, she knew she didn’t win the popular vote.

“All of this winning, I’ve been losing my mind”, she sings, seemingly above it all.

She beat out Rihanna, Anderson.Paak, King and Galant with her album Lemonade.

She added how she wanted her daughter and niece to see, through their family and through the world around them, a place where they have “no doubt that they’re attractive, intelligent and capable”.

One of the most visually astounding, politically radical clips of the year just won the Grammy for best music video.

Beyonce has been heavily criticised by Donald Trump in recent weeks, but she didn’t use last night as a platform to hit back.

The Grammys is where pop stars push the envelope on fashion beyond the more classic dress-up looks worn by their film colleagues two weeks later at the Academy Awards, whether barely covered flesh or head-scratching spectacle – such as Gaga’s arrival at the 2011 Grammys in a translucent egg.

The 69-year-old musician, who is now touring in Australia and New Zealand, later clarified that his Beyonce comment was “regretfully taken out of context”.

It’s her first Grammy of the day in what’s expected to be a big night for the singer.
