DeVos: Protesters show hostility to change, new ideas in education
She was so controversial that Vice President Mike Pence had to step in an cast the tie-breaking confirmation vote in the Senate.

As a beneficiary of Trumps’ spoils system, Republicans in Congress who have benefitted from her generous donations managed to sail her through a tedious nomination proceeding.
According to The Huffington Post, the cartoon printed in the Belleville, Illinois, newspaper shows Education Secretary Betsy DeVos walking and flanked by tall men.
In a Gallup poll published last August, 28 percent of parents with their oldest child in a public school said they were “completely satisfied” with the education their child is getting.
It all sounds very good, until one looks a little deeper. The charter school system is also weakening public school funding; the poorest communities being affected the most. I expect there will be more virtual schools. Take for instance example Cesar Chavez Academy Elementary of southwest Detroit, where Latino students are performing at lower levels than Latino students in Detroit Public Schools (DPS)-one of the worst performing urban districts in the nation.
The author has to make DeVos appear to have some sort of association with her professional and relational life to public education, that’s quite a stretch.

“It’s our civic duty to engage, and public schools are our future”, she said. “My staff and I referred to the resources on a regular basis because they were an excellent source of guidance and information about the federal IDEA law”.
The Louisiana Senate Thursday night approved 24-0 a resolution inviting newly appointed U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to visit Louisiana public schools. “I can’t think of any now”, she replied.
DeVos is a fierce proponent of school choice, but she lacks resolve to address greater issues. In contrast to her boss in the White House, DeVos has attempted to strike a conciliatory note, while not letting go of the “school choice” themes that he promoted in his campaign, and she has promoted for decades.
Some of the counter-demonstrations were on the wild side.
Friday’s protest was not the first for the team responsible for protecting the education secretary.
Duncan said he “never for one second doubted” the security team’s ability to do its job and never saw a need to ask for additional protection… The counter-protester was followed by a swarm of people, who repeatedly attempted to block his sign.
This isn’t the first time rally organizers have been direct targets of criticism.

“We’re not being violent, we’re just letting people know we are still in school and we’re the people being affected, and the generations after who are being affected can’t really have a voice”, she said. In doing so, they achieved a goal. McCoy added, “I thought I was speaking out against hate”.
