A move which involved the dynamic Frenchman saw his one-two with Costa interrupted but the ball feel kindly to striker and he finished with aplomb from just inside the box.

Wolves were creating problems for Chelsea, who were struggling to fashion chances. The Spanish global received the ball with his back to goal and rolled Danny Batth before turning inside him and firing into the side netting from 8 yards out.

The rest of the half was fairly even without either goalkeeper being troubled greatly. Fabregas picks out the late run from Willian with a sumptuous pass. After shrugging past Wolves defender, Danny Batth, he had only the keeper to beat from a tough angle. Costa and Eden Hazard hadn’t been expected to start and although neither player looked fully enthused about participating in the contest, both made crucial contributions that helped see Chelsea through. Conte is right to temper expectations but it increasingly looks like the Italian is set for a League and Cup double in his very first season in England. His header found the bottom left corner of the Wolves net and put Chelsea 1-0 up. He has scored nine goals and provided five assists already this term, and we’re only midway through January.

Goals from Pedro and Diego Costa at Molineux secured Chelsea’s passage into the quarter finals and Antonio Conte played five-time cup victor Terry at the heart of a defence that was rarely threatened by Championship strugglers Wolves.

The decisive goal came just a few minutes later for Chelsea.

After shock wins for Lincoln City and Millwall earlier in the day, Wolves may have felt extra confident about their chances of a victory in this one. For sure, it won’t be easy in the league or the FA Cup.

“I think now for the players, for the people who work for Chelsea, and for me it’s important to be focused on the present”.

Do you think Costa is destined for the Premier League?

Meanwhile Conte also joined football fans all over the country in expressing his admiration for non-league Lincoln City who produced one of the biggest FA Cup upsets of all-time to win 1-0 at Premier League Burnley earlier on Saturday and reach the last eight.
