In the meantime, dramatic scenes unfolded with the marshals evicting all DMK MLAs.

The Congress, which has eight MLAs in the House, is awaiting word from the Congress high command. While MGR’s wife Janaki Ramachandran was the chief minister then and was due to prove her majority, Jayalalithaa stood in Panneerselvam’s shoes as she opposed Ramachandran’s claim to the party and the late leader’s legacy.

An FIR was registered on Sunday against DMK leader MK Stalin for staging a protest at Marina beach.

After hectic discussions at Panneerselvam’s residence on the morning of February 17, a small group of AIADMK leaders met the speaker in the secretariat and demanded a secret ballot.

Stalin in a statement said his party would stage the hunger strike from 9am to 5pm and condemned the adoption of trust vote after eviction of his party members. Besides, on winning the vote of confidence, Palaniswami along with AIADMK members paid tribute to J Jayalalithaa at her memorial.

Amidst the bedlam, some DMK MLAs turned violent ransacking the tables of the Speaker and the Assembly Secretary.

When the Speaker said his shirt torn by DMK members, Mr. Stalin denied the allegation. Waste-paper bin is allegedly thrown out. However, the violence in the assembly made the Speaker to adjourn it for the second time.

The last session before the Assembly elections will be remembered for an unprecedented way of protest manifested by Congress legislators.

Meanwhile, before the floor test Palaniswami seems to gather support of the commoner at Golden Bay resort in Kuvathur. They besieged the Speaker and shouted slogans. According to ANI, the MLAs went on a rampage, tearing official documents, tearing the Speaker’s shirt. They protested in the assembly and were forcefully removed from the assembly. The police arrested him and others within half-an-hour.
