Snap Inc. touts vision as camera company on investor roadshow

Earlier in the month, Snapchat said that it would make its hard-to-obtain Spectacles easier to buy in 2017.

Outside of pushing toward profitability in its flagship Snapchat app, the 7-year-old company hasn’t given many details on future plans. But there is reportedly a purchasing limit of six Spectacles per household.

You no longer have to find a special vending machine to get your hands on a pair of Snapchatting sunglasses.

Now set to ship within 2-4 weeks, Snap Spectacles are priced at $130, plus shipping and taxes. The glasses are available in three color options- Coral, Teal, or Black- and delivery is now promised within two to four weeks.

“Barriers for entry would appear low here as well, and you could see their demographic – 18-34 year olds – easily shift to another service”, Aviva Investors’ Saldanha said. Twitter is another example before investors of a very popular network not been able to generate enough of advertising revenues. In its filings with the US Securities and Exchange commission, Snap noted that Spectacles have “not generated significant revenue…” The high prices have fallen to more reasonable numbers, indicating that the novelty may have worn off.

Spectacles allow you to show off what you see in 10-second Snaps, though you can also pair them with your phone to wirelessly upload those Snaps to your story. Due to their limited availability, the Spectacles were available through eBay at a premium price. They are not waterproof either.

You’re going to have to be pretty into Snapchat if you’re going to wear sunglasses with a camera that records video only for Snapchat, so these Spectacles aren’t for everyone. Meanwhile, a second press will let you capture a 30-second stream. Honestly, we didn’t know what to make about them initially and plenty of jokes have flown since they were unleashed in a limited fashion.
