Sony Launches Xperia XZ Premium and XZs

But Sony‘s got you covered there too.

Sony has a phone problem. Neither have slow motion 960fps video, Motion Eye tech or fingerprint sensors.

Sony at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 event in Barcelona, Spain had finally unveiled the Xperia XZ Premium.

Starting with the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, the smartphone sports a 5.5-inch Triluminos HDR display with 4K (2160 x 3840) resolution. Apparently, the phone should come with a Snapdragon 835 SoC alongside a 4K HDR screen. The triple-sensor system that was seen on the XZ is what the Premium device also offers.

The standard Sony Xperia XZ might not have premium in its name, but it does have a premium price, coming in at $699.99/£549 (around AU$939) – though some retailers now sell it at around a $100/£100 discount.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium offers a mirror chrome finish making it a rather shiny device. This book could have been written two years ago.

The display on the Sony Xperia XZ Premium is its most impressive feature. This also results in image scanning five times faster.

At the ongoing smartphone grandeur, Japanese manufacturer Sony announced Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra targeting the mid-budget market. “A large version, the 6” XA1 Ultra, is also to be made available.

That Xperia XZs is still a great-looking phone, but it’s less interesting than then Premium model.

Sony makes really, really good cameras. Although Sony has yet to share battery expectations for the XZ Premium’s 3240 mAh battery, the company did divulge that the phone would include Smart Stamina battery management, which uses machine learning to determine phone usage and give more exact estimates of remaining battery life.

To begin with, Xperia has stuck with bezels, yes in a time when manufacturers are getting rid of the bezels, Sony begs to differ.

The Xperia XZ Premium is the big brother upgrade to last year’s Sony Xperia XZ.

However, the X2 does pack the Motion Eye camera system and should make its debut in April 2017.

SAD: The fingerprint sensor isn’t activated on the US model. It will also be available on online marketplaces such as Best Buy, Amazon, B&H Photo and others. Take for example the processor, a 64-bit based octa-core MediaTek helio P20 processor, which handles all the basic stuff nicely from what we’ve seen so far. Now, though, one of them is actually going on sale: the newly-christened Xperia Touch – an Android projector that turns any surface into a touchscreen. That means the device is bigger than the original as mentioned earlier. However, the X1’s front camera will only be 8MP compared to the Ultra’s 16MP.

While it would be easy to dismiss these phones as simple evolutions on existing designs, Sony clearly understands where its strengths are these days and is heavily playing into them. Sony hasn’t specified the exact version of Android Nougat the XZs will ship with, but we expect it to be 7.1 just like the XZ Premium.
