University of Arkansas adds transfer quarterback Ricky Town

Ricky Town has made his decision.

Former USC quarterback Ricky Town will transfer to Arkansas, according to reports from ESPN’s Joe Schad on Friday.

Town probably won’t run for 100 yards a game, but he boasts impressive accuracy when throwing on the move and will keep drives alive with his ability to evade pass-rushers.

“Coach (Bret) Bielema is a great person”, Town told ESPN. “Ricky is the kind of uncommon person we are looking for and will fit into our program athletically, academically and socially”.

The California native chose to stay close to home at USC, but the fact that the Trojans also brought in fellow quarterback Sam Darnold in the same recruiting class likely contributed to Town’s decision to transfer.

Town (6-foot-4, 210 lb) will sit out the 2015 season but will be eligible to play next fall for the Razorbacks.

Maybe Town’s odds of winning a starting job next year are better than they were vs. Browne in Los Angeles, but the depth chart is still too crowded to say anything’s guaranteed. Town had actually been committed to Alabama before ultimately signing with the Trojans.

Town will join sophomore Austin Allen, freshman Ty Storey, redshirt freshman Rafe Peavey and redshirt freshman Troy Allison as quarterbacks on the Arkansas roster who will have eligibility remaining after the 2015 season. Not just simple reads. “I can’t wait to get started and help Arkansas win an SEC championship”. “I want to be like a point guard on the field”.
