Trump again calls media ‘enemy of the people’

Pretty much all of those stars ran for office past year (some failed spectacularly).

“I think it’s disheartening”, said Michael Hall, a spokesperson for Students for Liberty.

The second day of CPAC will likely be a conservative “safe space”, where conservatives like NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre, 67, author Katie Pavlich, 28, and former Trump rival Carly Forina, 62, will get on stage and speak to the gathered crowd of excited supporters. During a morning session Thursday, Conway, the first woman to run a successful USA presidential campaign, made headlines by saying that she doesn’t consider herself a feminist “in a classic sense” because the term is associated with being “anti-male” and “pro-abortion”. “We wanted all of the things we’re going to get”.

The push by the administration to enforce the immigration laws on the books, in order to minimize the number of illegal criminals in this country, is being reported by the liberal media as “anti-immigrant” and “anti-Muslim”. That’s all stuff he’s campaigned on. And we will not let them back in. They’re pretty happy so far.

Janine Jakubaskas, a 25-year-old financial industry worker from NY, said in an interview that Trump may not have said much new, but his speech confirmed that he plans to make good on his campaign promises. “It’s very much driven by Trumpism and nationalism”. Radio Row had its regular share of visits from conservative rock stars, including Scott Walker, John Lott, Mark Levin, Ted Cruz, Sheriff Clarke, and even Dog the Bounty Hunter to add a little celebrity punch.

A staggering 94 percent of the 1,447 activists surveyed in the straw poll said they approved of the pick, and they were eager to make sure Senate Republicans don’t bungle it.

Trump isn’t really a traditional conservative.

The audience adored him and made it clear, shouting “We love you” or erupting into spontaneous applause.

Overall, the love was palpable from both sides as Trump addressed a capacity CPAC crowd.

People don’t seem that hung up on that.

Trump’s political message mirrors the populism of Britain’s Brexit leader Nigel Farage, who said the new direction for the US government is just the beginning of a global movement.

White House staffers Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway and Reince Priebus took key speaking slots at CPAC 2017, along with the president.

A year ago, Mr. Trump chose to forgo CPAC and stay on the campaign trail.

Still, some differences emerged: While Mr. Trump has made infrastructure and his border wall his early priorities, CPAC attendees said their top items are repealing Obamacare and overhauling the tax code.

The group’s website describes the group as “a network of populists who believe that the American government should represent we the people once again”. Trump never spawned this kind of activism, opting for media attention and rallies over building a ground game.

ANDY SULLIVAN: Right. And that’s a big unifying message for the folks in the room. There’s a lot of discussion about things like free speech on campus, which the younger members are encountering. You know the dishonest media, they’ll say, he didn’t get a standing ovation, you know why? They feel like their views aren’t accurately reflected.
