Liberal Activists, New DNC Chief Face A Trump-Era Reckoning
On his first full day as chair, Perez joined “Meet the Press” and told Chuck Todd that President Trump wants to “eliminate overtime pay”. But Jan. 21 and beyond was far more important for America.

He said President Trump was not responsible for the increase in companies adding jobs, even as the stock market hits historic highs. And that’s what they’re not doing.
Meanwhile, principled conservatives will (eventually) oppose these things, creating fissures within the GOP, which may be why we have not seen these issues get anywhere near actual congressional debate so far, as House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell figure out how to have these conversations in a way that doesn’t turn into the patented GOP circular firing squad.
Pennsylvania is one of several states with a Democratic governor and a Republican legislature. If the Democratic Party fails to understand this reality they will emulate the British Labour Party, which rejected the kind of moderate liberal leadership represented by Tony Blair in favor of the extreme leftist Jeremy Corbyn. It put in place the Democratic leadership that will navigate thousands of state and local elections – where the party hopes to reverse the losses of the past six years – and a 2020 presidential race that could divide the party again.
Just because the media doesn’t report on it, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. His past history and current voting record should have disqualified him for any office within the Democratic Party. They’re the most powerless nationwide that they’ve been in almost a century. The nation needs stable political parties like never before. And they are in need of your help. A Democratic president isn’t so wonderful when the opposition controls the rest of the country. But his defeat had a lot more to do with the refusal of insider Democrats to recognize that their party must get out of Washington (with a genuine 50-state strategy); break the bonds of big money (with small-donor funding); link itself with grassroots activist groups; and abandon the “Third Way” compromises that have turned too many Democrats into errand runners for Wall Street. Neither result seems to bother the Democrats. So why would they start now? Unfortunately, they would act in a completely different way – they spent and grew government, and caved to lobbyists when it came to applying regulation.
The selection of the chair of the Democratic National Committee was a hotly contested and unusually closely watched process, given the deep divisions within the Democratic Party after the 2016 election.
So did Republicans hail the Democrats for taking a stand against Farrakhan?
The DNC swiftly rallied its forces, narrowing down candidates for party chair from seven to one in a matter of days, but many challenges lay ahead.
It is hard to miss the sharp difference between the politics of the post-2016 presidential election and what followed earlier national elections.
The race was actually pushed backed a month. A 50-state strategy doesn’t work if Democratic candidates in OR and Oklahoma talk about the exact same things.
WIMES: This is not about Donald Trump at this point. They must instead seek to collaborate with them in building a stronger party, one devoted to winning at every level. And Democrats are notoriously bad at turning out in midterms. They just wanted to make sure that they maintain their power and position.

Perez was seen as the establishment candidate, with the backing of Obama, the Clintons and former Vice President Joe Biden. The closeness of this race shows that the Democrats are still undergoing the convulsions of an identity crisis. If they don’t, they’d better get used to losing.
