Overwatch Drops The Anchor With New Tank Orisa

In the timeline of the game, the newest hero is actually only one month old. Ana and Sombra joined the ranks in July and November of past year respectively.

A few days later, Orisa was revealed as the newest hero of Overwatch.

But how does Orisa play? The new playable character is made of OR15 defense robots’ parts, and it has the vital role of being the newest protector of the city.

Where Orisa is expected to shine is as a protective anchor on the team.

“And while her barrier isn’t quite as durable as someone like Reinhardt’s, she’s able to perform other duties while it’s deployed”, reads a post on Blizzard’s Overwatch website. At the same time she also has Fortify, an ability that allows her to ignore stuns and knockbacks when it is active.

This shoots a graviton charge that will move outwards from Orisa. When detonated, it slows nearby enemies and pulls them in. She can also summon a Protective Barrier that functions similarly to Reinhardt’s, albeit it can be placed, rather than attached to her for the duration it’s active. Not to mention her ultimate, which is a supercharger that can help to power up the damage that allies deal in her line of sight.

Unlike with the Sombra announcement where we were left to kind of guess about her abilities after watching the animated short, today we’re given the full compliment of Orisa’s kit right away.

Overwatch’s newest member Orisa hit Blizzard’s public test realm earlier this morning.

Is Doomfist The Next “Overwatch” Character? Kaplan cites Reinhardt as an “anchor tank”, a character whose abilities make the backbone of a team but are not necessarily mobile like D.Va or Winston. Kaplan adds, “wanted another tank that teams could build around or position around”.

Orisa is available for testing now on the PTR for testing and should make her way to the main game soon. Instead of a 35 percent reduction of damage in Sentry and Tank modes, Bastion only receives a 20 percent reduction. While it’s hard to know exactly how she’ll fit into team compositions (the PTR really isn’t an ideal environment for testing) it’s evident she will unseat Winston and D.Va and to some extent, Reinhardt too.
