NFL Combine 2017: Defensive linemen, linebackers drills, workouts
Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett is an absolute athletic freak of a man-child. Though the school has produced five number-two overall picks, most recently Luke Joeckel and Von Miller, Texas A&M has never produced a number-one selection.

Speedy Noil is now the only athlete with a higher vertical jump than Myles Garrett so far, and that might be a footnote when summarizing the past couple days of the former Texas A&M defensive end.
Charles Harris, Missouri: This is what a hybrid edge defender looks like. But what had everyone talking was Garrett’s blazing time in the 40-yard dash. Florida Atlantic’s Trey Hendrickson (266 pounds) came in second at 1.62.
Washington WR John Ross broke the official 40-yard dash record, held by East Carolina’s Chris Johnson and the oft-forgotten Eastern Kentucky’s Rondel Menendez. They could trade it away for a mountain of draft currency. He then hoisted 225 pounds on the bench press 33 times, showing off some high-level strength. But he said Sunday the medical checks are going well, and he’s ahead of schedule.
Few players run a straight line 40 yards in an National Football League game, and any that do run it are wearing pads. One player who finished well in all the “explosive” categories was Temple linebacker Haason Reddick.
And Alabama defensive end Jonathan Allen would like a say in the matter as well. Later in the day, Garrett dropped jaws by recording an insane 41-inch vertical leap.
He also addressed his most pressing combine issue, having made news this week when it was revealed he has arthritis in his shoulders. I got to have a locker right across from him and see how he acted day-to-day and he couldn’t be a more upstanding guy.
He was a little clunky in the back pedal, but that won’t be where he survives in the NFL. However, the 10-yard split can offer some insight into explosiveness.
Tarell Basham, Ohio: The Senior Bowl propelled Basham’s stock upward, and he maintained that momentum this week. It’s an attempt to assemble a starting 22 (plus a terrifying punter) of the greatest workout warriors at each position ever.

The rehab will keep Hooker from participating in any combine drills. New Jersey native and MI star Jabrill Peppers will workout with the linebackers.
