In the span of eight days, the Celtics have beaten the two Finals combatants – albeit with each team missing a key Kevin (Durant in Oakland; Love in Cleveland) – and Boston’s preferred starting five is now 19-6 when healthy.
But, the Clippers then went on a 43-14 run and the Celtics ended up by losing the game, 116-102. This is especially true with Isaiah Thomas being one of the hottest 4th quarter players in the league.
“We just made it tough on them”, said Thomas, who led the Celtics with 25 points. With a pump fake and a body contortion, Curry got the shot to go. Jae Crowder had a near double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. “We didn’t give them anything to cheer about”. The importance of each game grows as the season progresses, and the Celtics can still improve on their way to the playoffs.

This one will be worth revisiting next season … unless, of course, these two teams meet in the NBA Finals. The most frustrating part of that loss was that the Celtics blew a 17 point lead, not what you want when you are facing a team chasing you in the standings. The problems begin with their frigid 3-point shooting. Facing a side well known for its rebounding struggles, Golden State could not get to a number of 50-50 balls and lacked the activity that has been one of the team’s trademarks in recent seasons. Durant has been taking the scoring load off of Iguodala and Iguodala is fine with that since he has never had a scoring mentality with this Warriors team.
