The biggest story as we head into free agency is where Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will end up. It was hard to imagine Romo, who turns 37 in April and has dealt with significant injury issues over the past few years, was going to draw much of a trade market. The 36-year-old Romo has reportedly expressed a desire to sign with a championship contender, and the Broncos and Texans are two teams with legitimate championship aspirations. If the Cowboys release him without the designation, they would clear $5.1 million in cap space.
First there was the report on Wednesday that the Cowboys were planning to cut Romo on Thursday, ending the former undrafted free agents tenure with the only team he’d ever played for. The answer was clearly made and it seemed like most of the fans of Dallas agree with the team on this one, as well as most National Football League fans as a whole. The Cowboys are desperate to not have to eat the cap hit that goes along with releasing Romo. But he hasn’t played a full season since 2012, including missing 21 games with injuries the past two seasons. According to the New York Daily News, Romo reportedly met with Broncos Elway Tuesday night to discuss the possibility of playing quarterback for the franchise next season. Had it not been for Prescott’s unbelievable rookie season, Romo might be getting another shot to lead the Cowboys to glory in 2017. Leary has started 47 games over the last four seasons.
