National Football League notes: Bears dump QB Jay Cutler in latest offseason overhaul
However, Glennon’s guaranteed money isn’t too much, and the Bears did clear almost $12 million in cap space by releasing Jay Cutler.

How can the Bears not be serious with an offer for Gilmore? But that doesn’t excuse the signing.
Although Glennon didn’t take many game reps the past two seasons, he still feels that he improved as a quarterback.
Here’s how the internet reacted to the news…
“You look back to how he performed in college – you know he was highly successful player in college – and then you just evaluate every single snap that he’s taken the entire time in the NFL”, Pace said.
There have been few reasons for confidence in Chicago in recent years.
Glennon has played just two games the last two seasons. While some think Jay Cutler is better than Mike Glennon such as Fox Sports’ Skip Bayless, I believe Glennon has a better karma trait than Cutler and can be the next Brad Johnson or Rich Gannon. The Panthers kept busy as they signed three other free agents: wide receivers Russell Shepard from Tampa Bay and Charles Johnson from Minnesota and safety Mike Adams from Indianapolis.
It’s been a rocky eight years in Chicago for Jay Cutler, a tenure that officially came to an end Thursday when the Bears cut the veteran quarterback.
Armed with more than $66 million in salary-cap space and determined to make Winston and an improved offense even more productive, the Bucs didn’t settle on the first day of National Football League agency for simply adding a much-needed No. 2 receiver. In a statement about the news, the Bears praised him for his “toughness” and “professionalism” on and off the field. Maybe he doesn’t stink anymore! Whether or not that is reality, we’re not exactly sure.
Pressure was waiting for Glennon at the door upon arrival at Halas Hall. He just isn’t good at navigating the pocket and finding space to throw.
In preparing for free agency, Glennon scouted teams that he felt could be in the market for a starting quarterback, and the Bears checked all of his boxes. The Bears receiving corps was left in shambles after Alshon Jeffery chose a one-year, prove-it (courtesy of ESPN) deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
And the Bears reportedly have a deal with former Steelers receiver Markus Wheaton.
You have to wonder why the Bears were so desperate to lock him up so quickly.
Their other needs would require reaching for talent, even more so than picking a quarterback would. Hoyer is a solid option and a shrewd choice by the 49ers, yet he’s also 31 and the most known commodity imaginable. The Browns don’t seem to be interested in acquiring any quarterback not named Jimmy Garoppolo. The Rams need to find a big man to throw to before the Rams have a repeat of last season.

“That gives you a sense of ownership, of being in charge”, Glennon said.
