Kristen Stewart Explains Why She Shaved Her Head

Fortunately for her, Will Eubank, the director of Underwater, was of the same opinion. What makes them click?

“I was the right person at the right time”, he says.

“He doesn’t respond”, she said. I don’t know what the tattoo would be, yet.

The comparison fits. Contemporary interpretations of Henry James’s novella tend to stress that its ghosts are figments of a tormented psyche. Scandal emerged when it was revealed that Stewart had an affair – maybe, we don’t know the details nor should we – and the tabloids went bananas over it. But she communicates mostly with her body. Two years ago she became the first American actress to win a César award (often called the French Oscar) for her performance as the assistant to a mercurial European star (Juliette Binoche) in Assayas’ Clouds of Sils Maria. It seems nearly a “Twilight” rebellion for Stewart to retreat into indie and foreign films, but it’s a richly welcomed one.

“It’s practical”, she said, adding that the style was by no means mandated by production. And now we’ve heard her reason for having the dramatic short cut, we totally get it, too! “We both like to work like that, but you have to be willing to take risks”. “Try to normalize that!”.

While the Personal Shopper star believes prejudice is still rife, she believes positive change is afoot. Shooting on the streets of Paris (Stewart drives a moped through the city in the film), they were surrounded by paparazzi.

Kristen Stewart has been more open about her private life and sexuality in the past week than her whole career in the spotlight, claiming it is to help others feel better. “My nerves were very close to the surface”. The film has been described as a seductive, mysterious ghost-story, but Assayas said it was simply a coming of age tale. And in this way, perhaps she is the new De Niro.

Stewart recently addressed US President Donald Trump’s “obsession” with her in an acclaimed hosting stint on SNL. “I tried to [talk to him about it]”. Now I’ve realised who I am!’ I have not been struggling. “This was just a stranger, fascinating one because it’s so piddly in terms of what matters”.
