Singer and multi-instrumentalist Chuck Berry’s almost 50 year-long career ended with his death on Saturday (March 18). Berry had been averaging 39 album sales prior to his death, though sales spiked to 2,054 on Saturday, and climbing even more to 3,808 the following day.

Berry was born and raised in The Ville neighborhood in north St. Louis.

Barack Obama also offered his condolences. Chuck Berry was there at the very beginning, laying down the foundation for all the music that followed.
While studios often release tribute albums of classics or unused material after an artist dies, Berry’s upcoming album featuring mostly original songs was announced in October.
As the baby boom generation came of age, Berry won cheering crowds with his consummate showmanship, including his “duck walk” across stage, and lyrics that celebrated youthful freedom. “I played drums behind a lot of guitar players and the one thing that they all have in common is that everybody know Chuck Berry songs”, Lopez recalls. “I just miss him like insane”.
St. Charles County, Missouri’s police department posted on Facebook Saturday that first responders, called to address an unspecified “medical emergency”, could not revive the unconscious Berry.

Edwards owns Blueberry Hill in the Delmar Loop where the rock “n” roll legend performed regularly until late in his 80’s.
