Canada’s National Women’s Team has appeared in every world championship Gold Medal Game, winning 10 gold medals (1990, 1992, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2007, and 2012) and seven silver (2005, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2016).

The Americans held just their second practice as a team Thursday, compared to the Canadians who have already played two exhibition games during their week-long training camp. “They said USA Hockey is having a final meeting Monday, and if the national team is still boycotting, we need you to report Wednesday”.

With the deal in place and both sides committed to focusing on moving in a positive direction, the national team, USA Hockey and fans can turn their eyes to Plymouth, where the women have convened to get back on the ice before a tournament-opening tilt against rival Canada on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The women’s players were asking for a $68,000 annual salary as well as for benefits like child care, maternity leave and the ability to compete in more games throughout the year. That’s problematic. There are few women in the meetings, few in any position of power, who can raise issues of importance for women hockey players. “So many players turned down offers to play starting on Friday”. “That’s one of the element that adds to our happiness that this is now behind us”.
