Two Democrats will vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch
“Let’s assume for the purposes of this discussion that we turn down Gorsuch, that there are not eight Democrats that vote to confirm him and therefore there’s not enough to put him on the Supreme Court”. As The Washington Post reported, “Senate hearings on Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch ended Thursday on a confrontational note, with the body’s top Democrat vowing a filibuster that could complicate Gorsuch’s expected confirmation and ultimately upend the traditional approach to approving justices”.

Minutes later, Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) announced that she will vote for Gorsuch too.
While chastising Democrats for threatening to filibuster Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer on Thursday delivered one of his most egregious falsehoods yet.
Senate Republicans have not yet counted the votes on whether they could change the rules, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley told reporters Wednesday, though he also said he did not know of any opposition.
Coons doesn’t think Gorsuch will get the 60 votes necessary for confirmation under a Democratic filibuster.
“Iif Judge Gorsuch fails to earn 60 votes, and fails to demonstrate he is mainstream enough to sit on the highest court, we should change the nominee not the rules”.
Schumer argued that Gorsuch “did not convince people he was independent and thoughtful and down the middle” during his confirmation hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Republicans, who hold the majority in the Senate, are intent on getting Trump’s choice confirmed before Congress’ two-week break in mid-April. There are 52 Republicans in the Senate. In other words, the slate is wiped clean, the GOP gets Gorsuch and Democrats get some more filibuster power back. Currently, 10 Democratic Senators from red states won by Trump will face a challenger in 2018 and may side with Republicans to keep their seat.
Judge Neil Gorsuch is a mainstream conservative judge who has earned the respect of liberals in the legal world, and this fact has caused no end of frustration to Democrats who are resolved to block a vote on his nomination to the Supreme Court. John Cornyn, R-Texas, calling him an “incredibly well-qualified judge” and urging Democrats to allow an up-or-down vote.

“After doing my due diligence by meeting with Judge Gorsuch and reviewing his record and testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, I’ve made a decision to vote in favor of his confirmation”. Chuck Schumer of New York, Toomey said it does not appear likely that Democrats will defect to back Gorsuch.
