The Storm Prediction Center has included much of Middle Georgia in a Moderate Risk for severe storms on Wednesday.
The storms are expected to intensify as the system moves out of the region. A second round of severe storms will move into Alabama and Georgia late Wednesday.
An enhanced risk is a three on a scale of one to five.
“I don’t recall having two moderate risks days in 48 hours since I have been here”, said National Weather Service Warning Coordination Meteorologist Mark Wool. “Strong tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds are our greatest threats”, stated a press release from the agency.
The Union County tornado, 6 miles north of Whitmire, was the strongest – an EF1 with winds of 100 mph. The biggest threats this afternoon will likely be heavy rain, gusty winds, and hail.
In the event of severe weather remember the safest place to be is on the lowest floor in an interior room like a hallway, bathroom, or closet.
The area is getting a brief respite from the severe weather tonight and tomorrow, with highs back in the 80s.
All modes of severe weather will be a possibility, but the extent of those threats will vary based on the timing of this system arriving.
Friday.Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 60s.
Thursday Night.Partly cloudy. Lows in the low 40s.
