Trump Calls Korean Leader Over THAAD Talks with China

Xi thanked Trump for his hospitality and said the meeting had served the goal of advancing the US-China relationship.

Experts say China, which along with Russian Federation has repeatedly blocked United Nations resolutions against Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, will have been both discombobulated and upset at how Trump’s air strikes overshadowed the summit.

Syrian refugees’ crisis deepened in Europe over the lack of humanitarian approach and security concerns of protecting Europe from terrorist activities.

Xi and Trump also discussed China’s increased militarisation in the South China Sea, with President Trump urging the Chinese to adhere to worldwide norms.

Trump and Xi agreed to increase cooperation and work with the worldwide community to convince North Korea to peacefully resolve the issue and dismantle its illegal nuclear and missile programmes, Spicer said, adding that the two sides had a candid discussion on regional and maritime security.

The visit was overshadowed by the missile barrage aimed at Syria, announced shortly after Trump and Xi wrapped up dinner Thursday night.

The two leaders also discussed North Korea and threat posed by its weapons programme.

A new US-China Comprehensive Dialogue is one of the few outcomes, but another bilateral talk-shop is hardly a headline-grabbing (or tweetable) deliverable.

Its UN ambassador, Liu Jieyi, never mentioned the suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria, or the U.S. airstrikes, at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Friday. North Korea has vowed to bolster its defenses to protect itself against airstrikes like the ones President Donald Trump ordered against an air base in Syria. Satellite photos show Pyongyang has prepared for the detonation, which can make for a hydrogen bomb test that would lend credibility to its self-claimed nuclear-state status. But Trump’s inaugural visit with Xi had a little more drama.

Days ahead of President Xi’s meeting with his United States counterpart, the former gave the indication that it would plan action against North Korea unilaterally if China did not cooperate with America.

The spotlight’s turn from Syria to North Korea carries benefits as well as risks for the Trump administration, now nearing its 100-day mark. Toshiba Corp., Westinghouse’s parent company, has sought a buyer for the unit and Trump administration officials are so concerned about Chinese investors obtaining control of it that they have sought an American or allied purchaser.

Ross declined to say whether the United States was ready to designate China a currency manipulator, however, referring to an upcoming report in which that issue would be addressed.

The good news for Trump and Xi is that they’ll have plenty of other opportunities to keep these exchanges going, even if the hotly anticipated Mar-a-Lago summit may have fizzled and failed to meet expectations on both sides.

Both men got some of what they wanted out of the meeting.

Despite his hardline rhetoric against Beijing during the presidential campaign, Trump described his relationship with Xi as “outstanding” right after the meeting, saying “tremendous progress” had been made in Washington’s relationship with Beijing.

In turn, Xi knows that China’s economic prosperity is inseparable from America’s and is striving for a common understanding, it added. There are certain difficulties for the United States to launch a unilateral military preemptive strike on North Korea.

They reviewed the state of the bilateral relationship and noted the importance of working together to generate positive outcomes that would benefit the citizens of both countries. “President Trump personally requested China to retract its retaliation over the deployment of the Thaad system, which signifies he will wait for China’s response to this”.
