Square Enix announced today the Final Fantasy MMO now exceeds 5 million registered accounts globally, excluding those playing the free trial.

CrossMaps noted that the PAX Prime event could very well answer the burning question as to what month will “Final Fantasy XV” be released for next next year. Will that include the game’s torturous trip through development limbo? The title was first released back in 1997 and, until now, it has only been playable in on Sony’s PlayStation consoles and Windows PC.
It should also be noted that Final Fantasy XIV is less MMO and more story-driven JRPG with multiplayer support. So, in other words, these new features are practically “cheats” that are built natively into the mobile version.
To celebrate the game’s success, Square Enix is hosting a special event called The Rising in conjunction with the Moonfire Faire. The new version may allow Cloud saves for usage on multiple devices, character stat boosts to move up stuck-up levels and might have slightly more optimised graphics to enrich the mobile gaming experience.
A downside to the iOS version of Final Fantasy VII is that users will need a good chunk of spare memory to download the game.
The figures for World of Warcraft dropping to about half of what its numbers used to be has really hit a chord with some believing that Square Enix has the opportunity to step in and be the next big, bad MMO on the block.
Most Final Fantasy players welcome the game’s arrival on iOS especially because they may now be able to play it anywhere they want.

Square Enix had initially announced that they would be porting the classic game to the iOS during the company’s press conference at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo with company executive Shinji Hashimoto making the announcement himself.
