The PA, however, does not recognize Israel as a Jewish state and has repeatedly refused to do so.

JOHN YANG: On the last day of his Israel stop, Mr. Trump visited Yad Vashem, the nation’s Holocaust memorial.
Although both leaders emerged hopeful from their meeting, no demands were made on either side to bring about a peaceful solution and Mr Trump left the region later on Tuesday without any plans to revive peace talks.
President Donald Trump’s trip to Israel was presented as a test of his ability to make the ultimate deal, but it’s serving to underscoring just how hard it is to strike a peace accord between Israelis and Palestinians.
While speaking next to Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday, Trump said, “I extend my deepest condolences to those so terribly injured in this terrorist attack and to the many killed and the families, so many families, of the victims.
In the West Bank, where protesters are demonstrating solidarity with hunger striking Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails, the sentiment was similar. He also did not speak in detail about how negotiations would start between Israelis and Palestinians. As regards reigniting peace talks, this is just the beginning and the USA administration is finding its feet. They even produced a video showing the lengths to which they went in preparation for the Trumps’ visit.
Palestinian activists have also noted that Trump’s rhetoric with regard to Israel and Palestine is no different from previous USA administrations.
The 50th anniversary of Israel’s capture of territories that Palestinians seek for a state is next month. Neither did he show any indication of being ready to fulfil a campaign promise to move America’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Mr Dermer raised his hand to his head, covering his eyes and then moving his hand through his hair in awkwardness and scratching his eyebrow before composing himself and turning his attention back towards Mr Trump. Another effigy was set up by the Marxist-Leninist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine that depicted Trump. The President has struck an increasingly optimistic tone on the prospects for peace in recent days, insisting that he is sensing a shift in the region that could draw Arab countries closer to Israel and create more favorable conditions for peace.
One name not being mentioned in Jerusalem was that of the former president, Barack Obama.
