Siri, speakers and software: Highlights from the Apple show

iOS 11 will conclude that a user is driving under one of two circumstances: If their phone connects to a car’s Bluetooth interface, or if the wifi antenna determines that the phone is moving at a fast enough speed. However, it now features a much thinner bezel, allowing the company to create a device that is not overly large in comparison.

The new iPad gets Apple’s usual array of cases and smart keyboards. Payments can be validated with Touch ID and the service will also come with the Apple Pay Cash virtual card for transactions.

As for macOS, the new version of Apple’s desktop operating system, it comes with a slight name change from Sierra to High Sierra, as well as a lot of improvements to Safari. Now it gets one step closer in the new iPad Pro. Apple said that makes the Mac a great platform for development virtual-reality “experiences”.

The iMac Pro, which is priced at a staggering $4,999 and will be available in December, is, according to Apple’s Newsroom, an “entirely new workstation-class product line designed for pro users with the most demanding workflows”.

The tech giant ran through a ton of new features that will be coming with the release of iOS 11.

Apple made a splash Monday at its Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose as it unveiled several new operating systems and product upgrades, including a new smart home speaker called HomePod.

Apple Maps adds indoor maps for major airports and shopping centers around the world and lane guidance to avoid missing a turn or exit. Mall maps will initially be available in eleven cities in the U.S., U.K., China, and Japan, while airport terminal maps will initially include 30 major airports worldwide. Rather surprisingly, Apple’s calling this feature Do Not Disturb While Driving.

Once the feature is turned on, your iPhone can tell when you may be driving and automatically mute your notifications so your screen remains dark. Evan Niu, CFA owns shares of Apple and Facebook. In the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, the Photos app uses both HEVC and HEIF (a still-image variation of HEVC) codecs for storing videos and photos, something that should help snap-happy users save a fair bit of storage capacity. Apple was late in introducing a speaker to consumers. Besides playing music, Apple’s Siri digital assistant will also respond to requests for information and other help around the house.

Besides the better display, and improved guts, the new iPad Prohas a nicer camera – which you should never ever use at a concert – and up to 10 hours of battery life. Files will also include plug-in support for other cloud file services such as Dropbox and Box. The new feature will be available as an app in Messages for easier access. With augmented reality, Apple seems to have waited for a good reason. While the company is finally going “VR-native” for desktop, Apple is also zeroing in on augmented reality for iOS 11 with the entrance of their newly revealed app developer kit “ARKit”. It’s a mostly under-the-hood change, but users will notice a difference.
