Immigration Issues Alienate Hispanics From Republicans

The Obama administration removed over 1.5 million people between 2009 and 2012 who were crossing the border or in the country illegally. The controversial businessman not only wants a wall built by Mexico in the border but also wants to put an end to citizenships given to the children that are born in the US from illegal immigrants.

Since some undocumented parents have U.S.-born children, those tenets are in conflict: a Trump administration would either separate children from their families or it would end up deporting American citizens.

“Mr. Trump doesn’t have a proven, conservative record”, Bush said. Changing birthright citizenship would require a constitutional amendment, which Cruz acknowledged as “difficult”.

In contrast, he only offered muted criticism against Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump for the lack of specificity in his immigration plan.

“When you think about the fact that half of unauthorized immigrants have lived in the U.S. for more than 10 years and they’re deeply integrated into their communities, tracking down all of those people actually, it’s gonna be a high price tag”, Rosenblum said via Skype. “It is a view I have long held”. And if you speak to some very, very good lawyers – I know some would disagree – but many of them agree with me, you’re going to find they do not have American citizenship.

Ramos says Trump’s proposal leaves many questions unanswered.

But for the candidate who famously alluded to getting his military policy ideas from the Sunday political shows, any policy proposals are an easy target for other GOP hopefuls, who are eager to break Trump’s lead in national polls.

Trump came up with an immigration plan that is so preposterous it proves he must be an undercover Democratic Party saboteur tasked with ruining any chance for a Republican victory in the 2016 presidential race. Their pushback against Mr. Trump’s “Illegal Mexican immigrants are rapists” comment came in drawn-out dribs and drabs.

Trump has been talking up the controversial wall for weeks. He also said that ending birthright citizenship is “not my priority” and that there were “other things that are much more pressing”. The lesson was that a defeat is ensured in the general elections if the Latino voters are turned off.

Santorum, who remains near the bottom of the 17-candidate GOP presidential field in public polls, says he would take a number of steps to reduce both legal and illegal immigration.
