‘The Bachelorette’ finale recap: Rachel Lindsay chooses Bryan Abasolo
Sure, The Bachelorette is known for drama and heartbreak, but after tonight’s finale, Rachel Lindsay might want to turn off her Twitter mentions for a while. “He realized this was a serious decision not to be made with the pressure of the producers”. I think that unlike Peter, Bryan is willing to tell Rachel that he’s all in, no holds barred, no high-minded concerns about engagement being too serious for a reality-show relationship.

Back in Spain, Rachel was still all confused about Bryan vs. Peter (we JUST realized those are both characters on Family Guy). If Rachel can’t accept that, well, he will make a fine star of The Bachelor. Even if they didn’t get married anytime soon, a proposal would signal that he was serious about her. Bryan, Eric and Peter are also there and Rachel will see them all before its all over; she jokes, asking if she can leave. And so Bachelor Nation’s Peter partisans took to social media to share their disappointment, confusion and – to use the most prominent word of the finale – frustration with Rachel’s choice. When alone, Peter tells her his hopes for their future, but he conveniently leaves out a proposal. Her eyes light up the second they glimpse Peter, including during what had to be the terrifying moment when he joined her on stage during a live portion of the 3-hour show, which spliced typical After the Final Rose commentary in between segments showing how the bummer of a conclusion was reached. But her bumper crop of eligible men has been whittled down to an unusually well-matched final three, making it more hard than usual to assess who’ll be walking away with the final rose.
A fun innovation for 2017: Rachel watches the finale live in-studio with Chris Harrison and comments on the events as they unfold.
After a couple of overnight dates with Eric, Rachel reluctantly had to let him go. Because unlike Peter, whose real-world hang-ups got in the way of the game, Bryan came ready to commit to the fiction of The Bachelorette.
Lindsay’s final date with Abasolo was a hot air balloon ride, where Abasolo gifted her a homemade Spanish dictionary and told her she’d make a mistake if she didn’t choose him. She is smitten. Who wouldn’t fall for a guy who called her “Big Rach”? But when asked if she was anxious about this, the barrister thought her parents just needed some time to get to know her fiance before they can get along. She gave him the first impression rose on night one, after all. And then Peter wonders out loud: Should I go home? Peter cries as girls and boys across America smash their faces into the TV trying to comfort him.
But in the end, it was Bryan whom Rachel chose. “BECAUSE RACHEL LINDSAY SETTLED WITH A MAN WHO DOESNT TRULY LOVE HER ALL OVER A F-KING PEAR SHAPED RING WITH A THIN A- BAND”, one fan tweeted before another added, “#RachelLindsay has the ring. and now she has Brian’s mother.

That meant Abasolo was left to do one thing: propose. That night, Bryan brings this up, and Rachel is glad he does.
