The event reads: “Donald Trump will be staying in Trump Tower in NY from Sunday 8/13 to Wednesday 8/16 for the first time since he was inaugurated”.
“Shame. Shame”, protesters chanted, forming dissenting voices to his recent stances on Charlottesville and North Korea.
According to Curbed, several protests have been planned for the duration of Trump’s stay in ny.
This weekend the president will depart from his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, for New York City, where he said Thursday he has “a lot of meetings scheduled”.
Signs at the protest included “It’s been so nice here … without you”, and a photo of a Muslim woman with the American flag as her hijab.
“This is personal for me”, said Bihn Thai, a New York City teacher whose family fled Vietnam after the war.
De Blasio and others have said they expected Trump would return more often than he has. Trump the racist has to go!” sang the crowd, some holding up giant balloon letters in gold that read: “FU TRUMP.
Notably, Jewish New Yorkers both for and against Trump gathered outside the Tower, both groups carrying signs and answering questions posed by others on the street. The leaders of four minority House caucus groups wrote a letter to Trump calling for the removal of White House staff aides Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller and Sebastian Gorka.
It will be the first night he spends at Trump Tower as president.
A protest in NY outside of Trump Tower in underway as hundreds of people in the area await the President’s arrival.
In advance of any protests, a line of garbage trucks was lined up and parked around two sides of Trump Tower.
Trump has said “many sides” are to blame for violence.
The New York Police Department warned city residents of road closures and expected traffic delays in midtown ahead of the USA president’s visit. They’ll remain closed until the president leaves, the NYPD said. Trump’s comments received blowback from those who felt he was downplaying the racial implications of the clashes between white nationalists and counter-protesters.
