Kohli, Pandey steer India to T20 win over Sri Lanka
India did not start well in the chase as they lost Rohit Sharma (nine) and KL Rahul (24) early. Malinga got the first break through for his team. The last time when India played a T20I match, skipper Virat Kohli opened the batting and if he decides to do that again, Ajinkya Rahane might have to sit out. “We tried a few things, the results are incredible to see”, Kohli said in the post-match presentation. Kohli and Pandey’s partnership led India to victory.

Coming in at No.3, Munaweera (53 from 29 balls, 5*4, 4*6) saved the hosts from the blushes with a fighting half century that came off 26 balls before all-rounder Ashan Priyanjan’s unbeaten run-a-ball 40 helped them to a healthy total. Kohli’s four fifties are also the joint-most half-centuries against a side in T20Is. With nothing to lose, they went after the Indian bowlers and even with two down, the Lions ticked the run-rate at a healthy pace.

Sri Lanka were crawling by then and were reduced to 134 for seven in the 17th over as Seekkuge Prasanna (11) was caught in the deep off Yadav. Shanaka held another decent catch at midwicket, from Isuru Udana’s bowling. The gist of it came in view during the Sri Lanka series that saw youngsters like Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadhav getting best of opportunities to play.
