Congressman Cleaver Opposed to the Rescinding of DACA
The Trump administration hasn’t been shy about arresting and deporting unauthorized immigrants. They allow Dreamers to pay in-state tuition, provide the DREAM loan program for financial aid, offer legal services, encourage student service centers, and disallow campus police to detain, question, or arrest a person based on documentation status. The lawsuit comes a week after 15 other states and the District of Columbia first filed suit to defend Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program – or DACA.

U.S. President Donald Trump is facing a lawsuit over his decision to end protections for people brought to the United States illegally as children. The complaint accuses Trump officials of violating the Administrative Procedure Act and the constitutional due process rights of UC students and staff by abruptly ending the program. And so they’re going to be sent back to countries that they don’t know, and families that they’ve maybe never met or haven’t seen, and so that has made people very empathetic for this particular population of immigrants.
White House legislative affairs director Marc Short told reporters on Tuesday that President Trump would not demand that border wall funding is tied to a legislative fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
“I’m preparing for worst case scenario”, said Ernesto Lopez of Lacey.
DACA protects almost 800,000 undocumented individuals, according to data released by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Salazar said he migrated to the USA illegally from Mexico with his parents when he was 1 year old.
DACA protections last for two years, and current recipients whose work permits expire between now and March 5, 2018, can apply to renew them by October 5, the HuffPost reports.
The Department of Homeland Security is no longer accepting new applications for DACA submitted after September 5.
Lopez says that even though he’s married to a US citizen, he does not have a path to citizenship, because he was brought to the USA illegally as a teenager. But they also argue that DACA is unconstitutional because former President Obama carried it out unilaterally instead of working through Congress.
Most universities’ public stances have been letters that reaffirm support of immigrants after major policy changes are announced.

“They should not be punished for things that were done by others”, Becerra said of the DACA recipients.
